China's grain output reached a record 715 million metric tons last year, with agricultural technology serving as the "password" to the high-yield harvest, a national political adviser said on Wednesday.

Huang Sanwen, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during a members' passage interview on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the country's top political advisory body, which opened on Wednesday.

Huang, also president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that major national science and technology initiatives, including efforts to bolster the seed industry and address weak links in agricultural machinery, accelerated during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

He noted that this push has led to breakthroughs in fundamental theories, the successful tackling of key technologies, and the deployment of advanced, practical tech products on farmlands.

According to Huang, the contribution rate of scientific and technological progress to China's agriculture surpassed 64 percent in 2025. He added that the nation's grain, vegetables, and meat are now predominantly grown or raised using domestic seed varieties.
