North China's Hebei province will strengthen measures to crack down on illegal acts and crimes in an effort to effectively enhance the public's sense of security, according to a video conference held by the province's top public security watchdog on Saturday.

The conference was attended by the province's public security organs, following a newly launched nationwide 100-day action to crack down on illegal practices over the summer.

The Hebei Department of Public Security gave a long list of illegal acts as major targets, including acts of oppressing the public, disrupting the public order, affray, unlawful detention, opening gambling houses and crimes against minors, women and the elderly.

The department also ordered strengthening night patrols in key areas to ensure the safety of people who go out at night.

The province's Tangshan city saw an assault case earlier this month where four women were beaten by several men at a local restaurant at night, after which a series of measures have been taken to enhance the city's public security and order.
