Quzhou Dragon Lantern show captivates in Beijing
Quzhou Dragon Lantern, a national intangible cultural heritage from Quzhou county in Handan, Hebei province, lit up Beijing during the weekend at a Lantern Festival celebration co-hosted by two museums.
The Olympic Park buzzed with energy around the Bird's Nest as the dragon dancers gathered. A blue dragon symbolizing favorable weather and a red dragon representing abundant harvests soared and dove through the air, their movements intriguing the audience who captured the moment on their phones.
Originating in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), this traditional folk dance is unique to Quzhou county.
The dragon heads are crafted from bamboo strips, giving them a majestic appearance. With over 20 performance styles featuring coiled and rolling dragons, it remains a spectacular display of China's dynamic cultural heritage.
