The livestock population in Inner Mongolia reached 108 million in 2009, an increase of 1.7 percent over the previous year, Xinhua reported. The grassland covers an area of 100,000 square kilometers at an elevation of 650 to 1,200 meters above sea level. Inner Mongolia is one of China’s major production bases of beef and lamb.
