China Day Salzburg 2026 International Choral Week opened at the Salzburg Congress Centre in Salzburg, Austria, on Feb 21, marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Austria and the 270th anniversary of the birth of musical genius Mozart.

The event was guided by the China Choral Association, co-hosted by the Salzburg City Tourism Board and the Austrian Youkuo Classical Music Institute.

In his address, Salzburg Mayor Bernhard Auinger said, "China Day Salzburg 2026 symbolizes openness, inclusivity, cultural diversity, and the profound friendship and active cooperation with China."

"Regardless of the current global political situation, Salzburg has maintained close ties with China for decades. The city of Salzburg also has a partnership with Shanghai, which is a very intensive one, not only economically but also culturally. These relationships should continue to grow — I think talking to each other is the most important thing in times like these," Auinger added.

Chinese and Austrian artists jointly performed the classic Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower and the Austrian folk song Edelweiss, launching a symphony of multicultural exchange centered on choral art.

In the great hall of the Congress Centre, 14 choirs from China, Austria, and various parts of the world took the stage in turn, presenting a rich and varied program.

Additionally, cultural images of various Chinese cities, achievements in educational and artistic exchanges, as well as cutting-edge technological products were showcased on the second floor of the Salzburg Congress.

The exhibition area featured traditional Chinese cultural displays, including dragon and lion dances, kung fu, tea ceremonies, and folk music. These were complemented by Austrian traditional costumes, folklore, and cuisine.

Jianzhen Schaden of the China Affairs Office of the Salzburg State Government said that Salzburg China Day serves as an international cultural exchange platform that facilitates multilevel discussions on topics such as smart tourism, digital experiences, the creative industry, and the urban service economy, further deepening Austrian-Chinese friendly cooperation.
