The 2026 Qingdao Turnip, Yuanxiao, and Tangqiu Fair, the city's top Spring Festival event, began on Feb 17 at the Dabaodao tourism and leisure block, ushering in a festive season that combines traditional folk culture with modern urban vitality.

The fair has already become a major draw for both locals and international tourists eager to experience Chinese New Year atmosphere. In the opening week, the event recorded 2.88 million visits, generating 30.37 million yuan ($4.2 million) in retail sales.

Spanning the period between Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, the celebrations are held in two historic venues that offer distinct cultural experiences. The Dabaodao venue is hosting a 16-day program with immersive exhibitions and folk performances that integrate heritage with modern commerce.

As the festivities continue, the focus will shift to the Haiyun Temple venue, which is scheduled to open on Feb 28. This location will feature a five-day Lantern Festival carnival centered on time-honored customs and traditional festive snacks. By connecting these two iconic sites, the fair is expected to sustain the city's festive economy and drive tourism growth well into the spring.
