In Huanghua, Cangzhou, Hebei province, the festive atmosphere of Chinese New Year is embodied by the aroma of steaming "mianhua" —decorative steamed buns.
"Eating mianhua during the New Year brings prosperity and good fortune," said Zhang Ruixia, a resident from Houxianzhuang village, who prepared the traditional buns early to share with relatives during the Spring Festival visits.
The tradition of steaming mianhua in Huanghua has a long history. Today, this custom stands as both a symbol of good fortune and a testament to the sweet fruits of rural vitalization, local authorities said.
