The concert Happy Chinese New Year 2026: A Musical Dialogue Between China and the West, was staged in Bucharest, Romania, from Feb 9 to 12.
The event was co-hosted by the China Center for International Cultural Exchange and Tourism Promotion, the China Cultural Center in Bucharest, and the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra.
The performances and exchange activities offered people in the Romanian capital a grand cultural feast to celebrate Spring Festival.
On Feb 10, the opening performance was held at the Athenaeum, a century-old musical landmark in Bucharest. Nearly 800 guests, including Chinese Ambassador to Romania Chen Feng, Romanian State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ana Tinca, and other distinguished figures from all walks of life, gathered.
The joint performance by the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Dinu Lipatti National College of Arts in Bucharest, featuring the integration and mutual learning of Eastern and Western music, was the highlight of the evening.
On Feb 11, a music workshop was held at the Spiru Haret National College. Artists from the orchestra introduced traditional Chinese musical instruments such as the erhu and pipa to Romanian students. Through detailed explanations and interactive experiences, the workshop enhanced young people's understanding of and interest in Chinese music.
