Chongqing doctor saves senior passenger mid-flight
A doctor recently saved a senior passenger having a medical emergency on a flight from Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province to Chongqing.
On Dec 6, the patient suffered a sudden colostomy prolapse, with part of her intestinal tissue protruding. Despite the limited resources and constraints from the aircraft's environment, Doctor Liu Xi, an associate chief physician from the Interventional Radiology Center at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, managed to stabilize the passenger and collaborate with the flight crew to arrange an emergency landing at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
Liu wisely chose not to attempt repositioning the prolapsed stoma mid-flight due to the risks involved. Upon landing, she briefed emergency medical personnel, who brought the victim to the hospital.
In recognition of her outstanding professionalism and dedication, the airline issued a commendation letter, highlighting her exceptional commitment to saving lives.
