China approves law aimed at healthy development of preschoolers
Chinese lawmakers have approved a preschool education law to provide strong legal protection for the healthy growth and all-round development of preschoolers.
The law was passed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, on Friday when it closed the latest session on Friday.
According to the law, China will create a sound support for preschool education, promote universal access, and build a public service system for preschool education that is accessible in both urban and rural areas.
The law, which will take effect on June 1 next year, also stipulates that preschool education should prioritize the best interests of preschool children, giving them special protection.
Governments at the county level and above are required to improve risk prevention systems for kindergartens, strengthen public security management, and patrol around kindergartens, to ensure the safety of preschool children, the law said.
