The State Council has approved an action plan addressing the overexploitation of underground water in North China, the country's top water resources watchdog said on Friday.
The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will be prioritized as measures roll out, which include the adjustment of agricultural structures and replenishment of underground water by water diversion, according to a Ministry of Water Resources press release.
Future water development will be restricted in North China, which also includes the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Shanxi province.
The full text of the action plan is yet to be published.
