China voices objections to DPRK embassy
China's Foreign Ministry said it had lodged solemn representations to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea embassy in Beijing over its sixth nuclear test.
"The representations were lodged to the person in charge of the embassy," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular news briefing on Monday.
China's adherence to denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and opposition to nuclear tests and missile development by the DPRK is well-known, Geng said.
China has proposed realizing denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula while establishing a peace mechanism.
Asked to comment on the US once again threating to potentially use military intervention in the DPRK to resolve the nuclear issue, Geng said, "China has reiterated many times that military force cannot be an option for the settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue."
He said many countries have stressed in their statements and remarks that a peaceful solution will be the only correct way out of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
"China also sides with them on that," he said.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection on Sunday began monitoring the radiation levels in the border areas in an emergency response to the nuclear test and recorded radiation at normal levels.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting Chinese nationals' personal and environmental safety, Geng said.
